Better Bushfire Protection

I support the right for residents to protect their homes and families and will work for better support and funding, not hindrance, from council for emergency services.

We may well experience another Black Saturday sometime in the next decade, not a pleasant thought but one we need to consider and be prepared for. Council have a large team working on emergency management yet I hear stories every week of actions and decisions that seek to block activity that will better prepare us for preventing fires and be safe if they occur. State policy such as the 10/30 right and neighbourhood safer places when committed to and applied well are critical.

We need clarity about the role of the Neighbourhood Safer Places and council supporting them and working with emergency services agencies. We need support for the CFA through funding, consultation and respect for their professional expertise not policy that creates delays and annoyance. We need to prepare for future bush fires now!
