Recreation & Inclusion

Sport and recreation are critical to our community health and well being with over 10,000 people playing football every weekend in Yarra Ranges during the football season.

Recreation facilities around the valley are sometimes run down but are so important to our community. Yarra Junction seems to be able to maintain a first class aquatic centre, why not one for Healesville and Yarra Glen? We have the land, we have the locals and visitor numbers, just no commitment from council to deliver.

Yarra Ranges Council has done too little for people with disabilities. They are about 20% of our population yet they are barely mentioned by council. People with disabilities have a large role to play in our community and just need a bit of help from local government. I have a child with significant disabilities and so I know all too well the difficulties that disability can cause in the face of an unsympathetic community or government. Inclusion demands that others who are isolated be catered for.
